Marjorie Joseph also known as MJ is the Founder and CEO/Principal of Gibbous Phase (GP). She is also the former Executive Director of Houston Coalition Against Hate - a collective impact network of 65+ community-based organizations, institutions, and leaders dedicated to reducing hate and encouraging belonging. With over 15+ years of experience as a nonprofit executive leader and organizer, she has honed skills in management, leadership, operations, program expansion, marketing, accounting, and innovative curriculum and infrastructure development.

Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a talent for assembling dynamic and results-driven teams, adept at aligning organizational missions and visions with strategic opportunities. Her approach emphasizes fostering understanding, empowerment, and a sense of belonging, while facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders and partners. As a visionary and advocate, she upholds the highest standards of personal and professional integrity. Her commitment to advancing social change is evident in her advocacy for the convergence of art and activism (artivism), as well as her development of pioneering frameworks such as #JusticeOverEquity and Dynamic Consensus. Her innovative approach also led to the creation of the Justice Statement, a groundbreaking alternative to conventional DEI policies. These frameworks were designed to catalyze societal and cultural transformation, driving meaningful progress towards justice and equity.

The United Nations Association-Houston has recognized Marjorie’s unwavering dedication to justice and advocacy with the 2021 Global Citizenship Award. The Coalition's impactful initiatives and research have also been lauded by The Center for the Healing of Racism with their 2021 Juneteenth Ally Award.

MJ's visionary leadership extends to her role as Chair of The Jung Center Houston’s Arts & Exhibitions Committee and active participation in the Leadership Committee for Arts Connect Houston. Her leadership skills have been honed through prestigious programs such as Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies Center for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership Leadership In Action, the American Leadership Forum Houston Gulf Coast, and Goldman Sachs 10KSB.

Beyond her advocacy leadership, MJ is a versatile creative talent. Her evocative writing and captivating performances have garnered international recognition and have been featured in esteemed anthologies. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, she holds a BA in Political Science with minors in Dance and African/African American Studies.
